DUN will not remember a password unless you've made a successful connection to the server.
The first two tips will fix most instances of this problem.
You must be logged on for Windows to remember passwords.
That means don't hit Esc when Windows asks you to log on.
If you don't want to type a Windows log-on password each time,
leave your password blank in the Passwords Control Panel window.
Solution #1:
Double-click on the Network icon in Control Panel, and choose the Identification tab.
If you do not see the Identification tab, Install Client for Microsoft Networks
Although the Workgroup and Computer Description have no use in Dialup Networking,
the Computer Name must be your WesterNet username.
Make any necessary changes, and press OK when finished.
You'll have to restart Windows, and then click OK when
it prompts you for a username and a password.
Double-click on your connection icon or launch your browser.
This time, your correct login will be in the login field,
and you should be allowed to type in your password.
Remember to turn on Save Password if it's not grayed out.
Solution #2:
Double-click on the Passwords icon in Control Panel, and click on the User Profiles tab. Select Users to customize preferences. Choose the desired options, and click OK. You'll have to restart Windows. When asked for a username and password, leave the password field blank. When asked if Windows should remember settings for this user, answer Yes.
Solution #3:
Please note this will delete all of the passwords you have saved on your computer!
Click on Start then Find (Search in ME) to Files and Folders.
Now enter *.pwl and select your hard drive (Usually C:)
& click Find Now.
You should now see a list of files, delete all of them
and restart your computer.
Make sure that you enter your WesterNet username into the "user" area when Windows first starts, but do not enter a password.
Solution #4:
Use only if the above solutions fail to work.
Have your Windows CDR handy before starting.
You will be removing and reinstalling Dial Up Networking.
First, download the most recent version of DUN before
you disable the present one.
You'll find it
Here for Win 95 or on your Windows 98 or ME CDR.
Solution #5:
The last resort, but you will have a new machine when done.
If none of the above options work, it is probable that
your Windows registry has been corrupted.
This is not unusual, unfortunately.
You should reformat your Hard Disk Drive,
Or call your local computer repair shop for help.
Don't forget to copy your personal files to other media.
Find all of your software CDR's.
Download updated drivers where needed.
